That's right, Nora Bellows - Noni Designs, will be here for two days in September. Nora has been knitting since she was 12 years old, but it wasn't until 2005 that she made her gorgeous patterns available to the public, and we're oh so thankful she did!<br /><br />While she is here, Nora will be teaching four classes - two on Saturday, September 17th, and two on Sunday, September 18th. We'd love for everyone to join us for this special event, but space is limited, so call soon to reserve your spot in one...or two or three or four of these classes. You'll certainly be glad you did!<br /><br />The cost of each class is $75, but if you sign up for two classes on the same day, you'll not only get both classes for $140, but you'll also receive lunch on us! Please see the schedule below, and reserve your spot in Nora's classes today!<br /><br /><strong>Saturday, September 17th </strong><br /><br /><span style="font-family:georgia;"><strong>The Cinch </strong></span><br />9 a.m. - 12 p.m.<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRkC1JUYIghVkn_mXZIUmaPUdcudlIweZKkQ0uhUnnh_DTWIqRWNaTa2VVqVCSl1cB2h98edrlicweQxyZuwE94Ltnl2-hWx9OUyzcn-8KtuW6_cY-M09TJ4WQgadfhgr3MtS_n9mI9vUG/s1600/Noni+Cinch+Bag.jpg"><img style="WIDTH: 150px; HEIGHT: 200px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5632607453902451202" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRkC1JUYIghVkn_mXZIUmaPUdcudlIweZKkQ0uhUnnh_DTWIqRWNaTa2VVqVCSl1cB2h98edrlicweQxyZuwE94Ltnl2-hWx9OUyzcn-8KtuW6_cY-M09TJ4WQgadfhgr3MtS_n9mI9vUG/s200/Noni+Cinch+Bag.jpg" /></a><br />For those of you already knitting The Cinch, this is a must-take class.<br />Whether you are knitting the small, medium, or large bag, Nora will have all the hardware needed to finish it, and she will be showing us how to attach it.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div align="left"><strong>Escher's Oriental Poppy Cowl </strong></div>1 p.m. - 4 p.m.<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkNdkTgmO6BrB1YkDoqDryoAbh-JI0sLFeqwi_j9qibl73MvD_vhX6nVxrSAKCT7lHABbalDGHM-1vDnr3g3wPxLC0wUuoNJh99kSNMYGlf0X22Q39TuqzR_mi28QcjrQqa9vY-RCr5kBQ/s1600/Escher%2527s+Oriental+Poppy+Cowl.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 150px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 200px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5632609457264583314" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkNdkTgmO6BrB1YkDoqDryoAbh-JI0sLFeqwi_j9qibl73MvD_vhX6nVxrSAKCT7lHABbalDGHM-1vDnr3g3wPxLC0wUuoNJh99kSNMYGlf0X22Q39TuqzR_mi28QcjrQqa9vY-RCr5kBQ/s200/Escher%2527s+Oriental+Poppy+Cowl.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />This beautifully knit and felted cowl is a great fall piece.<br />During this class, Nora will teach us all how to knit those gorgeous poppies.<br /><br /><strong>Sunday, September 18th</strong><br /><strong></strong><br /><strong>Clara Bow Clutch</strong><br />9 a.m. - 12 p.m.<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtlEalJxHD0JwmT8PD-jkxQnftPCOfyRcEmwH5P5oedbqg1qtYJjLXnplM4lOBVrcB9TG_cS7rMMD8jmctY9u8EPClVpm29VAyRUMpeoNSGMLdciATQ-nb_ijbdVsKDlcuBhaFbSFa0ZGW/s1600/Noni+Clara+Bow+Clutch.jpg"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 158px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 200px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5632610171453407586" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtlEalJxHD0JwmT8PD-jkxQnftPCOfyRcEmwH5P5oedbqg1qtYJjLXnplM4lOBVrcB9TG_cS7rMMD8jmctY9u8EPClVpm29VAyRUMpeoNSGMLdciATQ-nb_ijbdVsKDlcuBhaFbSFa0ZGW/s200/Noni+Clara+Bow+Clutch.jpg" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />This clutch is perfect for dressing up or down, and it makes a wonderful gift...remember, Christmas is only three months after this class.<br /><br /><strong>Canyon Beaded Bag</strong><br />1 p.m. - 4 p.m.<br /><br />This pattern has not yet been released, so join us, and be the first to see it AND create it!!Nestbuilderhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02893559531970651010noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8237008924037665468.post-68025059939836905752011-07-04T14:23:00.000-07:002011-07-04T14:38:05.330-07:0012 Days of Christmas in JULY @THE NESTNow is the time to get your gift knitting done. Beginning May 4, grab your knitting bag and join us every <span style="color:#ff0000;">Wednesday</span> from 1:00-4:00 pm. Our porch is a lovely spot to knit, relax and enjoy the spring and summer. If it should happen to rain, as it rarely does in West Virginia, you will have "shelter from the storm"(I'm a Dylan Fan).<br /><br /><br />May is a great month to stretch your knitting skills a bit. Learn to knit a cap while providing our neighbors undergoing chemo with a <strong>comfort cap</strong>. The class is provided <strong>FREE</strong> for a $15.00 donation to ACS which includes yarn and pattern. Check our calendar for times. Registration is required. "<strong>Fearless Knitting</strong>" has been a favorite class for beginners and intermediate knitters to learn to efficiently read a chart for textured, cabled and lace knitting. The class is <strong>FREE </strong>when materials, needles and book are purchased at THE NEST.<br /><br /><br />May 19, Tawnya will be teaching "Toe-up 2 @a Time Socks" using Cookie A's Monkey sock pattern using <strong>Claudia's Hand Paints</strong> fingering. Previous Toe-up experience is recommended for this class.<br /><br /><br />And finally, really challenge yourself with Entrelac. It's fun, beautiful and intriguing especially if you use<strong> Noro </strong>yarns. Try it, you'll like it.<br /><br /><br />Remember MOM (or yourself) with a gift certificate from THE NEST.<br /><br /><br />"What is made by the hands comes from the SOUL"<br /><br /><br />Happy Knitting!! I'm thinking about Spr/Summer knitting. I LOVE to knit outside-sitting by the lake or my pond, on the porch at THE NEST, or in my garden. Interrupted by the singing birds, croaking frogs, or warm breezes that scatter my patterns, I happily knit along. Summer is my favorite knitting season. My former life as a student and teacher may have a lot to do with my summer knitting cycles. Some customers tell me they never knit in the warm weather. There are so many lovely cottons, linens and lightweight wools to try, I don't want to miss any knitting possibility. I'm exploring options for the INSPIRA cowl (check it out on ravelry). I'm planning a class for this beauty!!! Can't wait to hit the porch!! Here are a few of our upcoming April classes: <br /><ul><br /><li>One Skein Lace Cravat </li><br /><li>Stash Buster Workshop --Colorful handmitts-- class fee includes materials but not needles.</li><br /><li>Bunny Hats</li><br /><li>Inspira Cowl</li><br /><li>Christmas Stockings and Ornaments</li></ul>SAVE THE DATE: JUNE 18th SATURDAY 10:00am-3:00pm KNIT FOR LIFE AT THE NEST "What is made by the hands come from the SOUL" DianaNestbuilderhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02893559531970651010noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8237008924037665468.post-12105714749010844312011-02-24T10:33:00.000-08:002011-02-25T08:21:05.651-08:00FEB 24<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcuaji3AzHKmxU5sqfY546_PqOte_25whAXW7Vg5i7Fl5B8YHoztYkm4j3fidfM7RE_KVgzmZqZRUbV-USpeZwVxq4lfbxp-30up5ff0703_S3wqVgpp_N4VFPeMe9Ezl1qdEjEg-HKXJH/s1600/raindrops_medium.jpg"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 149px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 200px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5577662878609444034" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcuaji3AzHKmxU5sqfY546_PqOte_25whAXW7Vg5i7Fl5B8YHoztYkm4j3fidfM7RE_KVgzmZqZRUbV-USpeZwVxq4lfbxp-30up5ff0703_S3wqVgpp_N4VFPeMe9Ezl1qdEjEg-HKXJH/s200/raindrops_medium.jpg" /></a><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBn_4g98fCzrDYEgSSbVBHmIe39WwPXHSgat5zv9U_Ymb_-rekx1XsjDWpSKghovvCLnkR9u1kIulmMGyuP458tAhOs4eE6j7q1kM4QVloemoPZIi150bGCgj3w5-ab6K3zDAcykeaZ_Ap/s1600/DSC01021.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 200px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5577661197162920402" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBn_4g98fCzrDYEgSSbVBHmIe39WwPXHSgat5zv9U_Ymb_-rekx1XsjDWpSKghovvCLnkR9u1kIulmMGyuP458tAhOs4eE6j7q1kM4QVloemoPZIi150bGCgj3w5-ab6K3zDAcykeaZ_Ap/s200/DSC01021.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_N_QrgvrNvcJXNb3fpja8_xeYlhcVqXbU7aFSJuMuw24H9dYvue2pzoC9gfp50zj2rkgKuOt1iPcDHpLctPWc6p0CUvge5A60h7AWkX1h3zWhXwUQt00M9h_hjcUgBX_qvk_jSUnnqT1L/s1600/DSC01021.JPG"></a><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 150px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 200px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5577660448782809650" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzCnuD_LmcMraXhDAIOzbvHmLEyR7icKgzNYZ6xoT4VtEcwscrXqtjM2DVWmzQo2Cn3FhaepG1ZqzAxsY_jLYrx7inxqAEQYSoiR3kz2872Ild6fL24IPEvpT6XwGGuPGgpk17nALDKgCH/s200/DSC01020.JPG" /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgd8nCxR60fH7P7g9zAWPRgKYPA52m5P3WUocTXzNDs7CgkHpq-_8yM6B1vznG37a2AuIECOWTbeacVcOHqlNbhaODbduH6r09_0lpse_cplbIQbFSTTCt4m0weYgXTW_7ULvbmewGSBVh_/s1600/DSC01016.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 150px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 200px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5577660442988173058" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgd8nCxR60fH7P7g9zAWPRgKYPA52m5P3WUocTXzNDs7CgkHpq-_8yM6B1vznG37a2AuIECOWTbeacVcOHqlNbhaODbduH6r09_0lpse_cplbIQbFSTTCt4m0weYgXTW_7ULvbmewGSBVh_/s200/DSC01016.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><div><br /><br /><div></div><br /><br /><div></div><br /><br /><div></div><br /><br /><div></div><br /><br /><div></div><br /><br /><div></div><br /><br /><div></div><br /><br /><div><br /></div><br /><div></div><br /><div>Here are the pictures of our March classes!</div><br /><div>Raindrops Socks, Herringbone Cowl, Nalu Mitts, Cozy Flap Hat<br /></div><br /><br /><div>Seventeen years ago today, my father died.. After 42 years working as an electrician and mechanic in the mines, he retired. In the summer he was busy mowing grass and gardening, but when cold weather arrived he was at a loss. You can only read so many hours a day, so he began to crochet afghans. He had learned to crochet watching his mom when he was little. His first efforts were fairly simple but he progressed to more complicated stitches, afghan stitch with cross stitched designs and lace. I recall during a particularly harsh winter, our watching "Roots" while I knitted and he crocheted.<br />All these years later his afghans continue to warm and comfort me, my children, and my cousins.<br />" What is made by the hands comes from the soul"<br />As you check out our calendar and projects and plan your knitted gifts remember how your knitting comforts your loved ones. For those of you who don't know me, I'm the girl you'll see in The Nest on Saturdays who isn't Diana. I'm crazy about knitting, and the color pink, and I'll be happy to help you find the right yarn, fix a problem (or rip it out for you), or teach you something new...even if it's new to me as well. So sit back and relax as I tell you what's going on this fall at The Nest.</span></div><div align="center"><br /></div><div align="left"><span style="color:#ff99ff;">Fall is just around the corner, and we all know what that means...it's time to start knitting our Christmas gifts! I've made a promise to myself this year: </span><br /><span style="color:#ff99ff;">I, Krista Book, WILL NOT wait until the LAST minute to start my gift knitting! </span><br /><span style="color:#ff99ff;">With The Nest's fall line-up of classes, we will all be prepared when it's time to wrap up our gifts! And with all the time I'll have by getting my gifts done early, I may even knit the bows to tie around my packages...</span><br /><br /><span style="color:#ff99ff;">This fall, we'll be knitting stuff for the beginner, the more advanced beginner, and the intermediate knittiners, so there's a project (or two, or three) here for everyone!</span></div><div align="center"><br /></div><div align="left"><span style="color:#ff99ff;">To kick off our fall line-up, The Nest will be knitting the Felted Christmas Stocking. These stocking will teach you the basics of sock knitting, and the result is a beautiful hand-made stocking you and your loved ones with treasure forever! See for yourself...</span></div><div align="center"><br /></div><div align="center"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5512053409736532386" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 150px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 200px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXHMVwTOo2_xer82_A6BNjn0pPbcOPb8UI9KP6poqbVCzy8c1wecsGynCuXpwXWts8KiGQ1BdQ_pqZ6hQeDV_uFnKGWMX_ToZ2BQoSetl9kMKLfjgNCEiSwPRanxBwlNY5sNjqV_kbin1M/s200/Felted+Christmas+Stocking.JPG" border="0" /><span style="color:#ff99ff;">Classes for the Felted Christmas Stocking will be <span style="color:#993399;">Wednesdays, September 8th, 15th, and 22nd at 4:30 pm</span>. It's no secret, we ALL have UFO's in our closets, under our beds, in bags hanging on door knobs, in the trunks of our cars, and if you're like I am, in our over-sized purses. Krista A. is going to help rectify this, uh, problem, and teach us how to FINISH! Off the top of my head, I can think of six, no, SEVEN, UFO's I have lying around my house, so Krista, you have your work cut out for you! Join us for The Nest's Finishing School on <span style="color:#663366;">Tuesdays, September 14th, 21st, and 28th at 4:30 pm</span>, and get those UFO's out of hiding and around your neck, on your head, on your back...you get the idea.</span></p><p><span style="color:#ff99ff;">Now that we're into the middle of the month, it's likely the weather will start cooling off, and we're going to need something to keep our shoulders warm. Well, once again, it's The Nest to the rescue! On <span style="color:#663366;">Tuesdays, September 14th, 21st and 28th at 6:00 pm</span> (after Finishing School), Krista A. will help us make the stunning Oscilloscope shawl. </span></p><p><span style="color:#ff99ff;"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5512069275972837586" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 150px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigDFAOUsHFK0BQPektaFEjmmDmRuLtUl_G2k1i2JA1SKcJybuKLCnZma00VzEaVLsGsH__Xdxc6Uv61a8RuPOHX3p3B5kgM5b4xItw10GOJ3JD81-tHIK85ezI5WqSBvZDytDe5yH_qdaW/s200/Oscilloscope+Shawl+2.JPG" border="0" /></span></p><span style="color:#ff99ff;">While knitting this shawl, we'll learn to make easy lace with worsted weight yarn...just think of the possibilities!!!<br /></span><br /><span style="color:#ff99ff;">Okay, if you're looking for something whimsical, yet quite practical, come knit these flip flops with me on <span style="color:#663366;">Saturdays, September 18th and 25th at 11:00 am</span>. </span><br /><span style="color:#ff99ff;"></span><br /><br /><span style="color:#ff99ff;"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5512066019299437810" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 200px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 150px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj92W5ZOuNtFKE-uMQi-VEYZPp36N56hhyQKVCBZZecw6qFjgWaOXX3m7_0bKmZcDuqsmDEYC2Z6vFkxSGrHGdxw5l-EbBg4VneLtzPaB5QYgK8MIik1BG-4xdzMxWT2W0M6uRiMocrhxKw/s200/Felted+Flip+Flops.JPG" border="0" /></span><br /><span style="color:#ff99ff;">Because these are knit on such large needles, they work up fairly quickly, and with the short rows and I-cords, they keep your attention. In celebration of all the beautiful spring colors that are popping up everywhere, I would like to show off my newest pair of socks. These are, hands down, the most beautiful socks I've ever knit. The pattern is Xanthophyll by <a href="http://www.violentlydomestic.com/">Hunter Hammerson</a>. The yarn is Prism Saki, in the Highlands Colorway. I knit the leg on US 2's, and the foot on US 1's. Because of the slipped stitch pattern, the sock is less stretchy than most socks I've knitted. That, combined with my freakishly high arches, led me to knit the leg on US 2's. <div><br /></div><div>Prism Saki is a fabulous sock yarn, and is officially my favorite. The colorways are stunning, and the yarn is so soft. Because it has nylon in it, the yarn holds up well, and I haven't had any problems with it being mashine washed (cold). The Nest just received a brand new shipment of Saki, so get it while it's hot!!!</div><div><br /></div><div><img src="http://images4.ravelry.com/uploads/freckledfrogger/25777199/CIMG3228_medium.JPG" /></div><div><br /></div><div><img src="http://images4.ravelry.com/uploads/freckledfrogger/24575837/CIMG3130_medium.JPG" /></div><div><br /></div><div>And here's a close-up of the stitch pattern. The yarn was absolutely perfect for this design. The variegation shows up so nicely!</div><div><img src="http://images4.ravelry.com/uploads/freckledfrogger/24575812/CIMG3134_medium.JPG" /></div>Nestbuilderhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02893559531970651010noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8237008924037665468.post-63172859563298325222010-03-23T11:01:00.000-07:002010-04-07T13:40:18.167-07:00FINALLY!!!Hi everyone, <div><br /></div><div>I hope you're all enjoying the early spring weather! Just in time, I <i>finally</i> finished my Mondo Cable Cardi! I had it mostly done back in November, but I didn't like the way the collar looked. Last weekend, I mustered the courage to <i>riiiiiiiiiiip</i> the collar and reknit it with some minor modifications. I'm very happy with the results, and am so excited to share it with you! </div><div><br /></div><div>Here are the deets:</div><div>Pattern: <a href="http://www.chicknits.com/catalog/mondo-cable-cardi.html">Mondo Cable Cardi</a> by Bonne Marie Burns of <a href="http://www.chicknits.com/">Chic Knits</a></div><div>Yarn: Noro Cash Iroha, colorway 92. I used a little less than 8 skeins (792 yards) on my cap-sleeve version of the cardi.</div><div>Needles: I ended up using US 5's, US 6's and US 8's for this project. </div><div><br /></div><div>Okay, now time for photos!!</div><div><br /></div><div><img src="http://images4.ravelry.com/uploads/freckledfrogger/25037264/CIMG3186_medium.JPG" /></div><div><br /></div><div><img src="http://images4.ravelry.com/uploads/freckledfrogger/25037384/CIMG3175_medium.JPG" /></div><div><br /></div><div><img src="http://images4.ravelry.com/uploads/freckledfrogger/25037716/CIMG3176_medium.JPG" /></div><div><p></p><p></p></div>Nestbuilderhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02893559531970651010noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8237008924037665468.post-42594526619784894302010-02-25T14:34:00.000-08:002010-02-25T14:45:01.718-08:00Moderne Log Cabin FunHi y'all, <div><br /></div><div>It's been a while since I've posted! I spent most of February traveling for graduate school interviews, so I had no time to knit or blog :( How sad! However, I intend to make up for it now that things are calming down. This week, I've settled into my couch and enjoyed watching the Olympics with my knitting in hand - so relaxing!</div><div><br /></div><div>I wanted to post a quick finished project for you. It's a baby blanket that I knit with Cascade 220 Superwash for a dear friend who had a baby recently. The pattern is the <a href="http://images.amazon.com/media/i3d/01/log_cabin.pdf">Moderne Baby Blanket</a>, originally included in <i>Mason Dixon Knitting</i>, a fabulous book by Kay Gardiner and Ann Shayne. Lucky for us, the baby blanket pattern is available for free, but the mitered border is not included on the PDF <a href="http://images.amazon.com/media/i3d/01/log_cabin.pdf">link</a>. I did a simple 4-stitch I-cord border, and I think it looks great. </div><div><br /></div><div>The blanket took a little less than 2 skeins of each of 4 colorways of Cascade 220 Superwash (so 8 skeins of yarn). I knit it on very long US 10 circular needles. I excluded Block 9, because this bad boy was getting huge, but if you knit it in a lighter weight yarn (such as Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino), it would probably be perfectly-sized. </div><div><br /></div><div>All in all, it was a very easy knit. Really, the only skills you need to knit this blanket are the knit stitch, CO, BO, and picking up stitches. It was a great road trip project, and much of this blanket was knit in the car (and NO, I was not driving!)</div><div><br /></div><div>Here are some photos! Enjoy!</div><div><img src="http://images4.ravelry.com/uploads/freckledfrogger/19130259/CIMG2637_medium.JPG" /></div><div><br /></div><div><img src="http://images4.ravelry.com/uploads/freckledfrogger/19130356/CIMG2639_medium.JPG" /></div>Nestbuilderhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02893559531970651010noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8237008924037665468.post-13692427033377761952010-01-25T16:39:00.000-08:002010-01-25T17:11:34.646-08:00New Class ScheduleHi everyone!<div><br /></div><div>As promised, here is the class schedule for February and March! We have decided which classes will be offered during January & February, but we won't be setting the schedule until the weather agrees to cooperate. In the meantime, you can find class descriptions and photos below. We will send out an email and post the schedule on here once it is set in stone. </div><div><br /></div><div>BUT FIRST.... I wanted to talk about the <i><b>FEARLESS KNITTER</b></i> groups forming now at The Nest. Through the winter, we will be taking our knitting to the next level using <i>Stitch n' Bitch</i> and the <i>Fearless Knitting</i> <i>Workbook.</i> We will begin with basic construction, learn how to fix mistakes, and be introduced to cables and lace knitting! Registration is free when supplies and books are purchased at The Nest. For all others, cost will be $10 per hour. We celebrated our 5th anniversary, knit hundreds of chemo caps for our 2nd annual Knit for Life, and made lots of new friends. We hope that 2010 is just as exciting, and we're planning lots of great events and classes to get the year started off right! :) </span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:georgia;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:georgia;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: medium;">Myself, I've been quite busy with the holidays and life in general. One of my New Years Resolutions is to update this blog on a regular (i.e., weekly) basis, so keep checking back for more projects and ideas. </span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:georgia;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:georgia;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: medium;">The project I'm featuring today is a sweater vest I knit for my sister for Christmas. SOON! I promise :) </div><div></div><div>In the meantime, I'll distract you with a beautiful triangle scarf I recently finished. The pattern is <a href="http://kateosborndesign.com/Knitwear/silkkerchief.pdf">Silk Garden Kerchief</a> by Kate Gagnon Osborn of <a href="http://zeitgeistyarns.blogspot.com/">Zeitgeist Yarns</a>. It took less than 1 skein each of colorways S252 and S269 of Noro Silk Garden Sock. It was a wonderful project, consisting of mostly garter stitch, and some yarn overs! :) This scarf is currently residing at the shop, so stop in to see it if you're interested in knitting. My mom has some amazing colorways of Silk Garden Sock in stock!! Enjoy the photos. As you can see, this scarf is small-ish, just the perfect size scarf to tuck into your jacket on chilly fall mornings!</div><div> </div><div>Knit on!</div><div>Abby</div><div><br I can't wait to 1) finish it, and 2) show it off to you! I'm so in love with it. I have a long road trip ahead of me, and hope to be finished by the time I pull back into Nashville.</div><div><br /></div><div>BUT, in the meantime, here's another quick project, perfect for holiday gifting. The pattern is <a href="http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEfall07/PATTfoliage.html">Foliage</a>, featured in the <a href="http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEfall07/">Fall 2007 issue</a> of <a href="http://knitty.com">Knitty</a>. I knit it with 1.3 skeins (exactly!) of Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran. This yarn is so, so soft, making it perfect for hats and other objects worn close to the skin. Here are some photos... </div><div><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3074/3099648133_f9294463a9.jpg" /></div><div><br /></div><div><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3119/3100482992_05cf654a75.jpg" /></div><div><br /></div><div><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3151/3100483840_60fa953a6b.jpg" /></div>Nestbuilderhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02893559531970651010noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8237008924037665468.post-71906678284695635962009-09-18T13:34:00.000-07:002009-09-18T13:40:27.378-07:00Malabrigo SlippersHi folks, <div><br />Look - a correctly-timed FO Friday ;) Today, I'm showing off an adorable pair of slippers that I made a while back using Malabrigo Worsted, which is a <i>beautiful</i>, kettle-dyed, buttery-soft yarn available at The Nest. Just try this yarn, you'll officially be in love. </div><div><br /></div><div>Anyway, back to the slippers. The pattern is the <a href="http://shessassy.vox.com/library/post/pattern-plain-or-flowery-slippers.html">Plain or Flowery Slippers Pattern</a> by <a href="http://shessassy.vox.com/">Sarah Hughes.</a> The pattern is very simple, and very quick. I knit these for a dear friend who went through a rough illness recently. I used the Pearl Ten (gray) and Calypso (pink) colorways of Malabrigo Worsted on US 7 needles. My gauge was off, and the pattern technically calls for bulky yarn, so make sure you knit a gauge swatch! </div><div><br /></div><div>Aren't they adorable?? </div><div><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3275/2976497721_9e77395bbc.jpg" /></div><div><br /></div><div>Until next time - happy knitting!</div><div>Abby</div>Nestbuilderhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02893559531970651010noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8237008924037665468.post-43549620398753412362009-09-10T09:45:00.001-07:002009-09-10T09:45:34.739-07:00The Nest Featured in WV Living Magazine!!<span class="Apple-style-span" style=" ;font-family:'Times New Roman';"><div style="border-top-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-style: initial; border-color: initial; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; padding-top: 3px; padding-right: 3px; padding-bottom: 3px; padding-left: 3px; width: auto; font: normal normal normal 100%/normal Georgia, serif; text-align: left; ">We have another exciting announcement! <a href="http://www.wvlivingmagazine.com/index.html">WV Living Magazine</a> is including a wonderful article about Nicky Epstein's recent visit to The Nest in their Fall issue. There are some amazing photos of the shop and the knitters who participated in the day's events (by Clarksburg native Michelle Waters of <a href="http://www.michellewaters.com/">Michelle Waters Photography</a>). The article was written by Bridgeport's very own Katherine Frederick Hanlon. We are so very excited about this, and hope that you will check out the Fall issue of WV Living Magazine. We are now selling them at The Nest, so stop by to pick one up!</div></span>Nestbuilderhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02893559531970651010noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8237008924037665468.post-24137687641730314862009-09-10T09:23:00.000-07:002009-09-10T09:44:15.463-07:00Finished Objects!Okay, so it's not Friday yet, but I will not be able to post a finished object tomorrow, and I feel so guilty for not sharing an F.O. Friday in so long!! :) So I'm going to post a couple of things I've finished recently, in an effort to make up for it! I've got some really cool projects in the works right now (including a baby blanket made out of Cascade 220 superwash, a gorgeous cardigan out of Noro Cash Iroha, and a shawl made with Silk Garden Sock.) So don't worry, they'll be showing up on here soon... <div><br /></div><div>In the meantime - </div><div><br /></div><div>These socks are one of my all-time favorite pairs that I've knitted. The pattern is Herringbone Ribbed Socks, from <i>Knitting Socks with Handpainted Yarn </i>by <a href="http://goknitinyourhat.blogspot.com/">Carol Sulcoski.</a> This book is chock-full of creative patterns and educational instructions on how to prevent the dreaded pooling and flashing that you sometimes get when knitting with handpainted sock yarns. The yarn used in this project was Cascade Heritage Handpaints, in color #9872, and they were knit on size US 2 needles. I knit these for my husband, and he adores them. He is now begging for more pairs of handknit socks! Here are some photos:</div><div><br /></div><div><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3633/3489749549_85106c72a2.jpg" /></div><div><br /></div><div><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3662/3489749811_e453c0365a.jpg" /></div><div><br /></div><div>Not too shabby, eh? The pattern is great, and very well written. The yarn was wonderful to work with, and gets softer with each washing. Both the yarn and the book are available at The Nest.</div><div><br /></div><div>The second project I'm going to feature is a fun, easy, "quickie" of a project. PERFECT for holiday gift knitting, if I do say so myself. This funky, chunky cowl is the <a href="http://www.helloyarn.com/cherrygarcia.htm">Cherry Garcia pattern</a> by Adrian Bizilia. I knit it with <b style="text-decoration: underline;">1 skein</b> of Noro Yoroi (color #5), and was so happy with the finished product! This yarn is just plain awesome! The colors are so vivid and the yarn texture is so unique. I won't be able to describe it, you have to feel it to understand :) I started and finished this cowl during a 4 hour road-trip, it doesn't get any better than that, folks!</div><div><br />Here's a photo - it's not the best quality photo ever, but I'll be sending this cowl to The Nest, and it will be featured as a shop model for a while. The Nest has a wide variety of colors of Noro Yoroi available, so feel free to stop in and check this stuff out!</div><div><br /></div><div><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2589/3736373165_86ddb274c6.jpg" /></div><div><br /></div><div>Phew, that was a lot of information! I hope you enjoyed today's projects! Until next time... happy knitting!</div><div>Abby</div>Nestbuilderhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02893559531970651010noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8237008924037665468.post-25422929243797028302009-09-07T11:57:00.000-07:002009-09-07T11:58:21.286-07:00<div>Since we haven't had a FO Friday in <i>forever</i>, here's a little treat for you, even though today is Monday ;) Isn't it just adorable??? The pattern is the Marley hat, from <i>Itty Bitty Hats</i> by <a href="http://susanbanderson.blogspot.com/">Susan B. Anderson</a>, who is an amazingly creative designer. <i>Itty Bitty Hats</i> is available for purchase at The Nest. The Marley Hat kits are now available at The Nest as well. We are using Takhi Cotton Classic, which comes in a wide variety of colors, to knit this cutie-patootie topper.</div><div><br /></div><div>Marley Hat Classes are starting next week!
